Well I’m in the middle of exam week, but everyone should listen to this song. It’s ace.

This is certainly (YouTube sensation) Edd Plant’s best release yet. Definitely worth a listen if you like pop-punk/alternative stuff.
Oldie, but goodie. :)
“As summer fades away
Laugh at my reflection
Passed to a lover
Seeking your affection”
I’ve been listening to The Horrors lately. They have an interesting sound composed of steady, driving bass grooves, melancholy, muffled vocals, and lots of synth. They remind me a lot of The Cure, but with some Interpol and Joy Divison influences. Their overall sound is a bit goth, but I really kind of like it.
Absolute brilliance.
“sleeping late in empty houses
inside while the summer rain passes
steal the keys and lock the door”
So, here’s the story behind my discovery of this band. Over a break for college (spring break to be exact), some friends and I traveled to an outlet mall about two hours away. While in Pac Sun, I heard this really fantastic song with a refreshingly different sound complete with shoegaze-esque guitars, a male frontman with a unique, nasally vocal style, and a female frontwoman with a cute, girly voice. I desperately tried to decipher the words, but I could only catch a few. So, I spent at least two hours trying to rack my brain for any possible lyrics I could remember, and I finally found These Days by Sleepy Vikings.
Here’s a studio version of the song.

Listen with headphones so you can take in every component of the musical goodness incorporated into this song.
I’ve heard The Drums before, but for whatever reason I set listening to their album on the back burner. Well, I’m pleased to report that I am listening to them at this very moment and I’m liking them a lot. I would describe their sound as sort of a rebirth of eighties New Wave. Think Joy Division/ The Smiths/ Echo and the Bunnymen and maybe even a little of The Cure. All in all, the music is really upbeat seasoned with catchy choruses, glorious synth and guitar-driven melodies and topped off with sometimes melancholy lyrics. In brief, these kids are fantastic at what they do, and they deserve every bit of success they get.
“Our city of battle trees is curled up to sleep
We spent all of our money buying roses for the king”
After just one time of seeing/listening to this Australian brilliance, I fell hard for it. The atmosphere created is almost tangible and I just want to run through the woods (grasping an orange smoke screen) without a care in the world. Also, the girl is cute.
Essentially, being an Engineering student means that I have next to no life, but here’s a happy, upbeat song with some MARIMBA (not a xylophone)!
If you’ve never heard Shiny Toy Guns, you really should give them a listen. Here’s the link to more of their music, and here’s some more.
